Habitat Helper Photo

Description

At one zoo habitat, let the child choose a visible feature that helps the animal use the space, then direct one photo of that feature where photography is allowed.

What to prep

  • Adult-controlled phone or camera, only where photography is permitted
Cost: FreeBest time: Morning, AfternoonCreates something to keep

Play guide

  1. 1At a public viewing area, choose one visible habitat feature from this ready list: water, shade, a climbing surface or a sheltered place.
  2. 2The child points to the feature and tells the adult what to include in one photo; the animal does not need to be in the picture.
  3. 3At a later planned habitat, look for a different feature from the list. Compare the two real spaces without turning it into a quiz.

Success signals

The child connects a real habitat feature with how an animal can move, rest, climb or access water.

If it's tricky

If photography is not allowed or convenient, simply point to the feature and skip the photo.
