Play guide

  1. 1Gather a set of dominoes or small flat blocks and clear a smooth, level surface.
  2. 2Help your child stand the pieces upright in a line, spaced about a domino's height apart.
  3. 3Encourage them to add curves, branches, or a longer path as they build.
  4. 4When ready, tip the first piece and watch the whole line topple.
  5. 5Set them up again and try new patterns or wider gaps to see what happens.

Success signals

Your child stands several pieces in a row and adjusts the spacing so they chain when tipped. They rebuild after a topple and try a new pattern. They stay engaged through several builds

If it's tricky

Pieces keep falling early while building: Work on a very short line first and build up, or use slightly heavier blocks that stand more steadily. The chain stops partway: Help your child check the gaps and close the ones that are too wide. Knocking them over accidentally is frustrating: Build in sections and join them at the end
