Description

Play guide
- 1Ask your child what wearable item they want to make and roughly how it should look.
- 2Gather clean, safe recyclables together, such as paper, clean packaging, and fabric scraps.
- 3Have them sketch a quick plan and decide how the pieces will join, with tape, glue, or string.
- 4They build the item, trying it on as they go to check the fit, with an adult helping any tricky cuts.
- 5Let them decorate and then wear or show off the finished piece.
Success signals
Your child chooses materials with a plan in mind rather than grabbing at random. They solve at least one fit or joining problem as they build. They can wear or hold up the finished item and say what it is
If it's tricky
Pieces will not stay joined: Try a stronger method together, such as string threaded through punched holes instead of tape. Child's idea is too ambitious to wear: Help scale it down to one part, such as just a hat or a cuff. Cutting packaging is tough or has sharp edges: The adult makes those cuts while the child directs the shape
