Description
Gather fabric scraps, ribbon, or pieces of old clothing and glue them onto paper to build a picture with real texture and dimension. The variety of materials - rough, soft, shiny, stretchy - is part of what makes this activity interesting.

- 1Collect fabric scraps: old clothing cut into small pieces, ribbon offcuts, felt scraps, textured fabric samples, or loose yarn.
- 2Pre-cut or pre-tear pieces into small, manageable sizes (roughly 2-5cm) before handing them to your child. This is the parent's job.
- 3Give your child a sheet of thick card or paper and white liquid glue in a small bowl.
- 4Let them choose, arrange, and glue pieces freely - building up a picture, a pattern, or just an interesting surface.
- 5Leave flat to dry. Liquid glue takes 15-20 minutes to fully set on fabric.
Success signals
Your child selects pieces based on texture or color, not just whichever is closest. They cover at least half the base sheet. They run their hand over the finished piece and notice the texture difference
If it's tricky
Pieces won't stick (fabric can be heavy or slippery): Use more glue and press pieces down firmly for a few seconds. Your child only wants the softest pieces: That's sensory preference - honor it and supplement with other soft materials. The base sheet buckles from too much glue: Clip or tape the corners down flat while it dries. Your child wants to sort the pieces by texture or color rather than glue them: Let them sort - this is a complete sensory activity on its own
