Play guide
- 1Lay your baby on their tummy on a firm, flat surface when they are calm, alert, and not just fed. Get down to their level, facing them.
- 2Place one interesting object just ahead of them, within sight and a short reach away.
- 3Encourage them with your face and voice, and let them lift their head, push up on their forearms, and reach or shuffle toward the object.
- 4Keep sessions short and stop if they get tired or frustrated; a few minutes at a time, several times a day, is plenty.
- 5Offer support by staying close and encouraging, but let the effort be theirs; do not prop them up or move them onto the object.
- 6Always stay with your baby during tummy time and never leave them unattended on their front.
