Description
On a rainy day, put on rain gear and go outside specifically to jump in puddles. Rain stops being an obstacle and becomes the activity. Best in light or moderate rain with shallow, still puddles.

Play guide
- 1Check that it is light to moderate rain - not a thunderstorm, not fast-flowing water or flooded surfaces. Calm puddles only.
- 2Dress your child in rain gear if you have it - waterproof jacket, boots, or clothes you're happy to wash. Getting wet is part of the activity, so dress accordingly.
- 3Go outside together. You go too - if you stay dry under an umbrella while your child jumps, the joy is halved.
- 4Find puddles and jump in them together. Big splash, two-footed jumps, step in slowly - every style counts.
- 5When either of you is ready to come in, declare the session done and head inside to change. No "just one more minute" pressure.
Success signals
Your child runs toward puddles rather than avoiding them. They splash enthusiastically, laugh, and pull you toward the next puddle. They stay outside longer than you expected
If it's tricky
Child is hesitant to step in ("it's dirty"): Go first - jump in a puddle yourself with obvious delight, and the hesitation usually dissolves. The parent going first is the most reliable entry point for a reluctant child. Boots aren't available and you are worried about wet socks: Change expectation rather than activity - plan on wet feet and have dry clothes and towels ready at the door. The rain becomes heavy or there is lightning or thunder: Go inside immediately - this activity is for calm rain, not storm conditions.
