Freeze Dance

Description

Put on music and dance together. When the music stops, everyone freezes - no moving, no laughing, hold the pose. When the music starts again, dance. Repeat until the energy is spent. No materials needed beyond a way to play music.

Play guide

  1. 1Find a clear space of at least 6 feet across for dancing without bumping into things.
  2. 2Start playing music at a comfortable volume.
  3. 3Dance with your child - any style, any movement.
  4. 4Pause the music without warning. Both of you freeze completely.
  5. 5Hold the freeze for 3-5 seconds, then start the music again. Repeat pauses every 20-40 seconds for 5-10 minutes.

Success signals

Your child dances freely when the music plays. They make a visible effort to hold still during freezes. They laugh, ask you to start again, and keep dancing longer than the first round

If it's tricky

Your child keeps moving during the freeze: Make it a game - you both check each other, and whoever moves first does a silly pose before the next round. They lose interest after a few rounds: Change the music to something faster or sillier. They're too wound up to freeze at all: Switch to a slower song for the final few rounds to bring the energy down before stopping
