Play guide
- 1Put a large plastic cup on the table. Tap the rim gently with one fingertip, then tap the side, then tap the tabletop beside it.
- 2Repeat the three sounds in the same order and choose which pair sounds most different.
- 3Let the child choose two locations for the adult to repeat as a tiny two-sound pattern.
Success signals
The child notices that changing where a sound is made changes what is heard.
If it's tricky
If the cup is too loud, use fingertip taps only or switch to a cushion and table for a softer contrast.
