Description
After Bird Paradise, compare two household tools by moving large paper balls: kitchen tongs for gripping and a spoon for scooping.
What to prep
- Kitchen tongs
- Tablespoon
- Two bowls
- Six large crumpled paper balls
Play guide
- 1Put six large crumpled paper balls in one bowl. Move them to a second bowl using kitchen tongs, then return them using a tablespoon.
- 2Notice which tool grips one ball securely and which is easier for scooping.
- 3Let the child choose one tool for a final transfer and explain the choice from what just happened. Connect the idea only generally: different beak shapes can suit different jobs.
Success signals
The child compares two tool shapes through a real action and links shape with function without pretending the tools are exact bird beaks.
If it's tricky
If tongs are difficult, use larger paper balls or let the adult squeeze while the child directs placement.
