Play guide

1. 1Gather a mix of safe loose parts, such as bottle caps, cardboard tubes, string, boxes, and spoons.
2. 2Ask your child what kind of machine they want to invent and what it is supposed to do.
3. 3Let them arrange and connect the parts into their machine however they picture it.
4. 4Once it is built, ask them to walk you through it, naming what each part does and how one part affects another.
5. 5Invite them to add a new part with a new job, or to act out the machine running.
