Play guide

  1. 1Put a cup, closed book and spoon on the table. Draw or tear a simple paper Gingerbread Man small enough to move with one finger.
  2. 2The adult gives the route: around the cup, over the book, beside the spoon. The child moves the paper figure through it.
  3. 3Swap route-setter and mover. Keep the same three objects but change their order for a second escape.

Success signals

The child follows or gives simple spatial directions while moving a concrete figure through a shared challenge.

If it's tricky

If three directions are too many, use around the cup and beside the spoon only.
