Your child takes on one named helper job for the day, such as table-setter or plant-waterer, and does it as their real contribution to the household. Having a job that is theirs is the point.

Play guide

1. 1Together, choose one simple, safe daily job that suits your child (setting out cups and spoons, watering a plant, feeding a pet, tidying shoes at the door).
2. 2Give the role a clear name your child can say, such as "table-setter."
3. 3Show the job once, step by step, then let your child do it their way. Accept an imperfect result.
4. 4Thank them for the specific help they gave rather than praising in general.
5. 5Keep the same role for a day or a few days so it becomes familiar, then rotate to a new one when they are ready.
