- 1Have your child write a very short story idea, just a few beats with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
- 2Ask them to storyboard it as a row of simple sketches so they know what each shot shows.
- 3Set up a steady phone or camera and good lighting, then shoot the scene one small movement and one photo at a time.
- 4Have them gather the photos in a free stop-motion app and set the speed so the movement looks smooth.
- 5Add titles or simple sound if they want, then watch the finished animation together.

Your child plans the story before shooting rather than filming at random. They take a series of small-movement photos rather than a few big jumps. They stay with the project across more than one sitting to finish it
If it's tricky
The animation looks jerky: Take more photos with smaller movements between each. The device keeps shifting and the shots jump around: Prop it against a stack of books or tape its base down. The project stalls partway: Split it clearly into plan day, shoot day, and edit day so it feels manageable.
