Description
A movement game where your child pretends to be different animals (or characters) and freezes when you say "freeze." Burns energy, builds body awareness, and works in small spaces.
What to prep
- space
Play guide
- 1Clear a space about 8-10 feet long where your child can move freely.
- 2Tell your child you'll call out an animal. They have to move across the space like that animal.
- 3Call out the first animal (e.g., "cat"). Let them move for 10-20 seconds.
- 4Call "freeze." They stop wherever they are, holding still.
- 5Call the next animal. Repeat for 5-10 rounds, or until your child wants to switch games.
Success signals
Your child engages with the movement (not just walking). Your child tries different ways to move per animal. Your child laughs or asks "what's next?" between rounds
If it's tricky
Child only walks regardless of the animal: Model it once yourself - drop to all fours for "cat," flap arms for "bird." Child freezes for too short a time and resumes on their own: Count to 3 out loud before calling the next animal. Child gets too wound up: End with a "sloth" or "snail" round to wind down.
