Lilytopia Our Garden Story

Description

Pause inside the Flower Dome and make a tiny spoken or gestured story about one Lilytopia detail you each chose. It takes 2-4 minutes with no supplies after admission, and your child can join with a look, a word or simply listening.

Cost: FreeBest time: Morning, Afternoon, Evening

Play guide

  1. 1Choose an unobstructed stopping place inside the Flower Dome after seeing part of Lilytopia, away from the pond and behind barriers. One grown-up stays beside one child, within arm's reach throughout. No supplies or cleanup are needed; this is a pause during a visit that requires admission, not an extra trip around the display.
  2. 2Share your own small moment first: "I liked looking at that flower with you." Use something you actually saw, such as a lily or the seated figures on the temple facade. Then invite, "Show me your bit of our visit." A look, point, word, any family language or silence is welcome; no recall quiz is needed.
  3. 3For ages 2-3, follow one look or gesture and answer with one short line: "You chose the curly flower." If they do not choose, share your own line and pause together for 30-60 seconds. For ages 4-6 who want more, each add a detail about the other person's choice, or let your child retell the moment in their own words.
  4. 4Offer to give your moment a little name together, such as "Our Curly Flower Visit," using something you noticed. Your child can change it, offer a sound or skip naming it. You are naming your own visit, not translating an inscription or making up a fact about ancient Egypt.
  5. 5Say "That is our story for today; shall we carry on?" Finish now or listen to one last contribution your child wants to make. On another visit you can use the same invitation with a new detail; there is no need to come back just for this game. If crowds, bright displays or fragrance feel uncomfortable, end and move away together.

Success signals

Your child looks towards, points to or names a detail and you include that choice in your shared line. Your child adds a word, sound or gesture to your line, or asks you to say it again. Your child declines and you accept the ending without asking them to share something positive.

If it's tricky

Your child says "nothing" or does not answer. Share only your own real moment and pause. Say "We can leave our story there" and move on; their silence needs no explanation. You chose different favourites. Include both: "You chose the tall figures, and I chose a flower." There is no vote, winner or need to agree. Your child shares something they disliked. Acknowledge it plainly, such as "That smell was too strong for you," and move away if needed. Do not turn it into a positive memory or ask them to finish the story. They cannot remember a detail or the view is obscured. Use a detail still visible from your safe spot, or share one thing you actually noticed while your child listens. Do not retrace the visit or approach water for a better view.
