  • item_list
  • timer
  • basket
Cost: FreeBest time: Anytime

Play guide

  1. 1Make a short list of everyday items to find, such as something soft, something round, or a specific object; read it aloud or draw it for pre-readers.
  2. 2Set a gentle time limit if your child enjoys a challenge, or leave it open.
  3. 3Send your child off to find and bring back each item, one at a time or all together.
  4. 4Check off each item as they bring it, naming it together.
  5. 5When the list is done, look at everything they gathered and let them put it all back.

Success signals

Your child listens to or reads each item and brings back something that matches. They stay on task through the list. They enjoy the hunt and ask for another list

If it's tricky

Your child forgets the list halfway: Give one item at a time instead of the whole list. A clue like "something round" is too abstract for a younger child: Name a specific object instead. The timer causes stress rather than fun: Drop it and make it a relaxed hunt
