Description
Paint your child's palm with washable paint, press it onto paper to make a print, then add marker details to turn the handprint into an animal, a flower, or any character they choose.

Play guide
- 1Protect the table with newspaper or a plastic sheet. Have a damp cloth ready for quick hand wiping.
- 2Choose a color for the first print. Use a brush or sponge to apply washable paint evenly across your child's palm and fingers.
- 3Press their hand firmly onto the paper, hold for 3-5 seconds, then lift straight up. Wipe their hand before it touches anything else.
- 4Look at the print together. Ask what it looks like, or suggest an option - "does that look like a turkey? a tree? a creature?"
- 5Once paint is dry (10-15 minutes), add details with markers: eyes, claws, petals, a smile. The handprint becomes the subject.

Your child presses at least two prints and engages with the question of what to make them. They add marker details to at least one print. They want to show the finished piece to someone
If it's tricky
The print smears (child lifts hand sideways): Coach "straight up" and try again - a fresh print takes seconds. Paint is too thick and loses hand detail: Thin with a tiny drop of water. Child only wants to make prints and not add details: Let the prints stand on their own - multiple handprints in a pattern is a complete result. Child wants to do their whole arm: Prepare for a bigger mess and more paper; this is harmless and often very funny
