Description
A partner game where two players face each other and clap their own and each other's hands in a set pattern in time to a rhyme. A shared, rhythmic game that builds a bit of teamwork and timing.
What to prep
- partner
Play guide
- 1Sit or stand facing your partner, close enough to reach each other's hands.
- 2Learn a simple clap pattern together slowly, such as clap own hands, clap partner's right, clap own, clap partner's left.
- 3Add a short rhyme or chant and match the claps to the beat.
- 4Repeat the pattern, speeding up a little once it feels steady.
- 5When you can do it smoothly, try a longer pattern or a new rhyme.
Success signals
Your child keeps the clap pattern in time with their partner. They remember the sequence and the rhyme. They laugh at the mix-ups and want to go faster
If it's tricky
The pattern falls apart: Slow right down and clap it without the rhyme first, then add the words. Your child mixes up their own claps and the partner claps: Start with just two moves and build up. Speeding up causes constant misses: Keep a steady slow pace; smoothness matters more than speed
