Description
Your baby lies or sits in front of a safe, unbreakable mirror while you gently point out their reflection and name what they see. A calm, curious moment of noticing themselves and you together.

Play guide
- 1Set a safe, unbreakable mirror where your baby can see their reflection - propped securely against a wall during tummy time, or held steady in front of them while they sit supported.
- 2Let your baby look. Give them time to notice the face, the movement, the light. Do not rush.
- 3Gently name what they see in a warm voice ("there's your face", "those are your hands"), pausing between each so they can take it in.
- 4Follow their gaze and interest; if they stare at their own moving hand, name that. Let them lead.
- 5Make faces or wave together in the mirror if they enjoy it, keeping it slow and calm.
- 6Stop when your baby looks away or tires. Keep the mirror secured so it cannot fall.
Success signals
Your baby fixes on the reflection, watches the movement, and stays calmly engaged. They may smile, reach toward the mirror, or move to see the reflection respond. Over time they show clear interest and return to the mirror with recognition.
If it's tricky
Baby ignores the mirror: Try during tummy time when a propped mirror gives them a reason to lift their head, or move it closer. Baby seems unsettled: Keep sessions short and your voice soft. Baby only wants to mouth the mirror: That is fine as long as it is a sealed, unbreakable baby mirror; wipe it afterward.
