Description
At a towel-lined table, your toddler pours a little water back and forth between two small jugs, a real practical-life job that builds control and a feel for how much fits.
What to prep
- jugs
- towel
- water
Play guide
- 1Lay a towel over a low table and set out two small unbreakable jugs.
- 2Put a small amount of water in one jug, only an inch or two so spills stay small.
- 3Show your toddler once how to lift a jug with two hands and tip it slowly into the other.
- 4Hand over a jug and stay beside them while they pour back and forth.
- 5When they are done, pour the water out together and mop the towel as part of the job.
Success signals
Your toddler lifts a jug and tips it toward the other. Some water makes it across. They keep pouring back and forth and stay focused on the stream. They help wipe up at the end when invited
If it's tricky
Water goes everywhere: Use even less and expect spills as part of learning. The jug is too heavy: Use a smaller one they can lift with two hands. They want to splash rather than pour: Let them explore briefly, then guide back to pouring
