Description
After the museum excursion, compare three familiar materials at home by touch and sound: wood, metal and cloth.
What to prep
- Wooden spoon
- Metal spoon
- Folded cloth
Cost: FreeBest time: Anytime
Play guide
- 1Put a wooden spoon, metal spoon and folded cloth on the table. Feel each one, then tap each gently with one fingertip or against the cloth.
- 2Choose which made the clearest sound and which made the softest sound, then place them in that order.
- 3Try the order again using touch instead of sound: smoothest to softest. There is no hidden answer; compare what you actually notice.
Success signals
The child compares real material properties through touch and sound rather than another guessing game.
If it's tricky
If metal is too loud, tap every object against the folded cloth instead of the table.
