Make Wind Move Paper

Description

Make a simple folded-paper fan and see how far away it can move another sheet's curled edge.

What to prep

  • Two sheets of paper
  • Clear tabletop
Cost: FreeBest time: Anytime

Play guide

  1. 1Fold a sheet back and forth into a hand fan. Curl the edge of a second sheet so moving air can catch it.
  2. 2Fan gently from nearby and watch for movement. Your partner moves the fan a little farther away and tries again.
  3. 3Swap fan-makers and compare a few wide folds with several narrow folds at the same distance.

Success signals

The child changes distance or fan shape and observes the effect on a real object.

If it's tricky

The paper barely moves: curl its edge higher and bring the fan closer.
