Description
Mix cornstarch and water into oobleck - a non-Newtonian fluid that pours slowly but turns solid when you press hard. Your child reaches in, grabs, squeezes, and drizzles, fascinated by a material that follows none of the usual rules.

Play guide
- 1Mix 2 cups of cornstarch with 1 cup of water in a wide shallow tray or bowl. Stir slowly - the mixture will resist and then suddenly combine. Aim for a consistency that flows like thick honey but hardens immediately when you slap it.
- 2Set the tray on a table covered with a sheet or a wipe-clean mat. Roll up sleeves.
- 3Let your child reach in with both hands. They'll discover: squeeze it hard and it feels like a solid ball; open the hand and it flows away.
- 4Top up with a small splash of water if the mixture dries out during play.

If it's tricky
The mixture is too liquid (pours freely, doesn't solidify under pressure): Add more cornstarch a tablespoon at a time and stir. The mixture is too solid and crumbly: Add a tiny splash of water. Child gets it on their clothes: It brushes off when dry - don't try to wipe wet oobleck, it smears. Child puts their hands to their face: Redirect immediately and keep a damp cloth nearby for quick wipes. Cleanup at the end of the session: Let the oobleck dry completely on the tray, then peel or sweep - do not wash large amounts down the drain (it can block pipes).
