Description
After Theatre Tales, turn a small paper bag into an opening-mouth puppet and make its mouth keep up with simple words.
What to prep
- Small paper lunch bag
- Markers
Cost: FreeBest time: AnytimeCreates something to keep
Play guide
- 1Lay a small paper lunch bag flat with its folded base facing up. Draw two eyes on the base and a mouth just below the flap.
- 2Put one hand inside and open and close the folded base like a mouth. Try two openings for "hello" and three for "banana."
- 3Make the puppet say your partner's name while they copy its mouth movements, then swap puppet operators.
Success signals
The child builds a working flap puppet and coordinates its movement with spoken syllables.
If it's tricky
The bag base is difficult to move: fold a small piece of card in half as a simple opening mouth and hold the two halves.
