After Babies’ Proms, float a lightweight scarf slowly up and down while the child watches, reaches or chooses where it goes next.

Play guide

  1. 1Hold a lightweight scarf where the child can comfortably see it and move it slowly up, down and side to side.
  2. 2Pause and let the child look, reach, point or vocalise to choose the next direction; the adult can name the choice.
  3. 3Let the scarf land on the adult’s own hand or lap, then repeat while the child is interested.

Success signals

The child tracks, reaches toward or otherwise responds to the moving scarf and can influence what happens next.

If it's tricky

The child does not want to reach: keep the scarf farther away and simply follow their gaze.
