Book Actions Come Alive

Description

Before From Page to Stage, turn a short passage from a household book into simple visible actions while the other person reads.

What to prep

  • A short passage in a family-appropriate household or borrowed book
Cost: FreeBest time: Anytime

Play guide

  1. 1Choose a short child-suitable passage with ordinary actions from a book you own or have borrowed. A Roald Dahl book fits the advertised inspiration, but is optional.
  2. 2The reader reads a few lines while the partner uses small actions for what is actually described, such as opening a door or looking under a chair.
  3. 3Swap reader and performer with adult reading help if needed. Repeat the same passage and try clearer actions together.

Success signals

The child translates concrete written actions into recognisable movements.

If it's tricky

The passage has no clear actions: use the supplied sentence "I opened the door, looked under the chair and waved."
