Red Light Green Light

Description

A start-and-stop game where one caller says "green light" for players to move toward them and "red light" for players to freeze, sending anyone still moving back a few steps. Burns energy and practises stopping on a signal.

Play guide

  1. 1Mark a start line and have the caller stand a good distance away, facing away or with eyes closed at first.
  2. 2When the caller says "green light," players move toward the caller.
  3. 3When the caller says "red light" and turns to look, everyone must freeze at once.
  4. 4Any player seen still moving on red goes back a few steps or to the start line.
  5. 5The first player to reach and tag the caller wins and becomes the next caller.

Success signals

Your child moves on green and freezes quickly on red. They hold still while the caller looks. They take a turn as caller and keep the calls fair

If it's tricky

Your child cannot stop in time: Slow the pace and have the caller count before turning so the freeze is predictable. Going back to the start frustrates a young child: Send them back only a couple of steps instead. The caller peeks too fast or too slow: Take a turn as caller yourself to model a fair rhythm
