Description
A balance game where the child walks across a space with a beanbag or small soft object balanced on their head, keeping it there without hands, then adds turns and stops. Practises balance and slow, controlled movement.
What to prep
- beanbag
- space
Play guide
- 1Clear a path across the room and place a beanbag or small soft object on your child's head.
- 2Have them walk slowly from one side to the other, keeping it balanced without holding it.
- 3If it falls, they pause, pick it up, replace it, and carry on from there.
- 4Once they can cross steadily, add a challenge such as turning around, stopping on "freeze," or walking a curved path.
- 5Keep going with new little challenges, or race gently to see who can cross without a drop.
Success signals
Your child walks with slow, controlled steps to keep the object balanced. They reset calmly when it falls. They enjoy adding turns and stops
If it's tricky
The object keeps sliding off: Use a flatter one such as a folded cloth and a shorter distance to build early success. Your child rushes and it always drops: Encourage slow motion or count steps together. Balancing on the head is too hard: Start with balancing it on a flat open hand while walking
