A Bridge For Gingerbread

Description

Make a paper bridge for a small paper Gingerbread Man and test which fold carries a wooden block without falling into the gap.

What to prep

  • Paper
  • Two stable books
  • One large wooden block
  • Pencil
Cost: FreeBest time: Anytime

Play guide

  1. 1Place two stable books a hand-span apart on the floor. Lay a strip of paper across the gap, with a simple paper figure on top.
  2. 2Try adding one large wooden block. Fold the long edges of the paper upwards and test the same block again.
  3. 3Compare the results, then let each person choose one new fold to test across the same gap.

Success signals

Changing the paper shape changes how it supports a real load.

If it's tricky

The gap is too wide for any attempt: move the books closer and test both versions again.
