Description
Tear colored tissue paper into pieces, dampen them, and press them onto white paper. When the tissue dries and is peeled away, the colors have transferred and blended into soft, watercolor-like pictures.

Play guide
- 1Tear colored tissue paper into irregular pieces roughly 3-5cm.
- 2Give your child a sheet of white paper and a small brush or sponge to dampen it with water.
- 3Let them brush water on a section of paper, then press tissue pieces on top. Layer pieces so colors overlap.
- 4Leave to dry for 20-30 minutes (or speed up with a dry cloth pressed gently on top).
- 5Peel the tissue pieces off. The dye has transferred to the white paper in soft, blended shapes.
- 6Optional: add marker details once dry to turn color shapes into figures.
Success signals
Your child places tissue pieces with deliberate overlap to create color mixing. They wait (or help speed up drying) and then peel the tissue off to see the transfer. They describe what the color shapes look like
If it's tricky
Tissue paper doesn't transfer color (some tissue paper is color-fast and designed not to bleed): Test a small corner before starting the full activity - dab with a damp finger; if no color appears, this tissue won't work. Switch to a different brand or type. Colors all bleed into brown: The paper was too wet - apply tissue pieces to a barely-damp surface. The paper tears when peeling tissue off: It's still wet - wait longer. Your child wants to keep the tissue pieces ON the paper as collage rather than peel them: That's a valid creative choice
