Description
Make a second small paper flower at home and see whether water opens its folded petals. Compare ordinary paper with a thicker sheet.
What to prep
- Ordinary paper
- Thicker scrap paper
- Scissors with adult help
- Shallow dish with a little water
- Towel
Cost: FreeBest time: Anytime
Play guide
- 1Cut a small square of ordinary paper with adult help. Fold each corner towards the centre to make four closed petals.
- 2Place it folded-side up on a shallow dish of water and watch what happens without pushing it down.
- 3Make another with thicker scrap paper and compare the opening. Keep your actual workshop flower dry.
Success signals
The child tests what two actual paper types do when folded and placed on water.
If it's tricky
The petals do not open: use plain uncoated paper and less tightly pressed folds; compare the result rather than forcing it.
