Play guide

  1. 1Have everyone sit in a circle where they can see each other's faces.
  2. 2Choose a detective who steps away, then quietly pick one player to be the secret winker.
  3. 3The detective returns and stands in the middle to watch.
  4. 4The winker discreetly winks at other players; a player who gets winked at counts to three, then dramatically goes out.
  5. 5The detective gets a few guesses to name the winker before everyone is out; then pick a new detective and winker.

Success signals

Your child gives or spots subtle winks and waits before going out. They keep the winker's identity secret when they are not the detective. They enjoy the suspense and want another round

If it's tricky

A young child cannot wink: Let them use a small agreed signal like a nose scrunch instead. Players give the winker away by staring: Remind everyone to keep glancing around naturally. Going out disappoints someone: Keep rounds short so a new one starts quickly and everyone gets a turn to be the winker or detective
